Australian Geomechanics Society
Welcome to the Australian Geomechanics Society.
The Australian Geomechanics Society was founded in 1970. Its origins lie in the National Committee of Soil Mechanics of the Institution of Engineers, Australia established in 1953 and the call for a corresponding society in rock mechanics. In 1973 the society was expanded to include the third discipline of engineering geology and has remained substantially unchanged since that date. In 2025, the society was incorporated as an unlisted public company through ASIC and officially registered as Australian Geomechanics Society Ltd.
There are currently seven local chapters holding regular events across Australia. For information regarding the functions of the society in your region and ways you can contribute and assist the society, contact your local chapter.
