Call for Site Investigation and Monitoring Data Contributions for AGS NSW Chapter’s Annual Prediction Event

The AGS NSW Chapter is excited to announce a new initiative under the ‘Numerical Methods and AI in Practice’ subcommittee: an Annual Prediction Event designed to advance the practical application of numerical methods in geotechnical engineering. To make this initiative a success, we invite contributions of site investigation data and instrumentation and monitoring datasets from the geotechnical community.
This issue has announcements of many upcoming meetings! We have 10 meetings listed here, and we conclude with our big, international meeting in Delft, Netherlands! The meetings will keep all of us busy! We have a wonderful YEG article too!

In eastern Russia there was a very large M8.8 earthquake which was followed by the eruption of the Klyuchevskoy Volcano nearby. Lava has filled the Kilauea Volcano in Hawaii, U.S., too. There were large sandstorms in Peru, and 90 million liters of meltwater has been produced under the Greenland ice sheet.

There were lots of news items of geodisasters this past week too! A study shows there are large amounts of nanoplastics in the waters of the North Atlantic, and the detailed map of submarine canyons of the Antarctic has been produced. We also include an article on an incredible site on Mount Thor in Nunavut Canada.

AGS Victoria – Government Review of the “Professional Engineers Registration Act 2019” – submissions due 25 July 2025

Dear AGS Victoria Member, As follow up to the email we sent last week, this email presents the next steps and what you can do. Note: the government review period ends on Friday 25 July. Step 1: Please see the attached “Submission” document. Feel free to edit the document or prepare your own submission if you wish. Step 2: In Section 1 of the Submission, please populate your details i.e who you are, what your experience is and your standing within our community.
