IMPORTANT ANOUNCEMENT!
It is with great pride and pleasure that I announce that the Australian Geomechanics Society (AGS) has been awarded the ISSMGE Outstanding Member Society Award over the period 2022-2026, a distinguished award presented once every four years.
The award was presented at the Gala Dinner of the 21st International Conference on Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (21st ICSMGE) being held in Vienna on 14-19 June 2026. Receiving this recognition on one of the most prestigious international stages in our profession makes the achievement particularly meaningful for our Society and its members.
This international recognition from the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE) is a testament to the strength, dedication, and professionalism of our members across Australia. It reflects the outstanding contributions made by our volunteers, committees, chapters, technical working groups, industry partners, academics, and practitioners who continually advance the geotechnical profession and foster a vibrant and inclusive professional community.
On behalf of the AGS Board of Directors, I extend my sincere congratulations and gratitude to everyone who has contributed to this achievement. This award belongs to all AGS members. It recognises not only our technical excellence, but also our commitment to education, knowledge sharing, professional development, collaboration, and service to the broader geotechnical community.
As AGS continues to grow and evolve, this recognition reinforces the important role that Australian geotechnical engineers and geoscientists play on the international stage. We are honoured to be recognised among the world’s leading geotechnical societies and remain committed to supporting innovation, excellence, and the advancement of geomechanics for the benefit of our profession and society.
I would also like to acknowledge the many AGS leaders, past and present, whose vision, dedication, and volunteer service have helped build the strong and respected Society we have today. This award reflects not only our recent achievements but also decades of commitment to excellence by generations of AGS members.
Thank you to all our members for your ongoing enthusiasm, leadership, and contribution. Together, we can be immensely proud of this achievement.
Congratulations AGS.
Warm regards,
Amir Shahkolahi
