Nominations are now open for two weeks to 5pm local time on Monday 17 November 2025.
Eligible voting members, as defined by the Australian Geomechanics Society constitution, are invited to self-nominate for the Sydney Chapter committee.
Eligibility
Voting Member means Professional Members, Corporate Nominee Members, Post Graduate Members, Graduate Members, Life Members, and Retired Members.
Committee member roles and responsibilities
- Meeting Attendance: Members are expected to attend monthly committee meetings, held on the second Wednesday of each month from 4:30–5:30 PM at Engineers Australia, Sydney Office.
- Active Participation: Each member should take on a role such as mentor, event coordinator, or delivering a vote of thanks, and actively contribute to at least two sub-committees.
- Time Commitment: Members should allocate approximately 3–4 hours per month for committee meetings, sub-committee activities, and event planning.
- Attendance Policy: Members who are absent from more than three meetings and are unable to contribute meaningfully may be asked by the Chair to step down from the Committee for the following year.
2026 Chapter Committee Executive and other roles
- “Chapter Committee Executive” is defined in the AGS Ltd Constitution as the Chair, Deputy Chair, Immediate Past Chair, Treasurer, Secretary and Symposium Coordinator. They are collectively responsible for the management of their respective chapters’ activities.
- “Sub-Committee” member selections are made based on the needs and focus areas of each sub-committee. The current list of Chapter Sub-Committees is provided in the online nomination form.
- “Congress” is the new functional meeting name being used for the annual election of AGS Chapter Committee Executive, broader Chapter Committee, and Sub-Committee Chairs and Members – this was often referred to previously as the Chapter AGM.
- Announcement of Results: The outcomes of the selection process will be formally announced during the Sydney Chapter Congress (Congress), to be held on Wednesday 10 December 2025 in conjunction with our Annual Debate Night.
Selection Process for 2026 Chapter Committee Executive roles
(AGS Sydney NSW Chair, Deputy Chair, Treasurer, Secretary and Symposium Coordinator)
- Eligibility: Members who have served on the AGS Sydney NSW Chapter Committee for at least two prior calendar years are invited to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to serve on the 2026 Chapter Committee Executive.
- Candidate Notification: A list of candidates for each position will be circulated to current Chapter Committee members and nominees at least seven days prior to the Sydney Chapter Congress.
- Congress Meeting: All 2026 Chapter Committee nominees will be invited to attend the Congress meeting on 10 December 2025, and elections for the Chapter Committee Executive will be facilitated by an AGS board member or staff member.
- Voting Procedure: If multiple candidates are nominated for a position, an in-person vote will be conducted by the attending AGS board member or staff member during the December meeting.
- Voting Integrity: Current Chapter Committee Executive members are ineligible to vote and will not be present during the voting process to ensure impartiality.
- Announcement: The results of the selection will be formally announced during the Congress on Wednesday 10 December 2025.
