Embankments Constructed over Soft Clays in Darwin

Aspects of constructing an embankment on soft ground over the Darwin coastal fringe are discussed. Available compressibility data for soft clays from the Darwin area are compiled and correlations for compression indices are developed. Settlement data for an embankment constructed adjacent to Sandgroves Creek, Darwin Harbour is presented. Comparisons are presented between measured and predicted settlements.
