Trying to make a difference – and why sometimes we can’t
2016 AGS Practitioner Award Lecture
Rob Day
Engineering as a profession, particularly in the area of public infrastructure, has the power to make a huge difference to the wellbeing and happiness of millions of people. Occasionally however, obstacles are put in our way that prevent us from achieving the best outcome for the maximum number of people with the resources we have available. Rob will share examples he has seen in a career that started back in the 1980’s, where obstacles have stood in the way of making a difference. It is hoped that this may provoke discussion, and possibly help others avoid these pitfalls in the future.
Engineers Australia members participating in AGS technical sessions can record attendance on their personal CPD logs. Members should refer to Engineers Australia CPD policy for details on CPD types, requirements and auditing guidelines.
