Geotechnical Forensics: Lessons from Instability, Investigation and Insight
The symposium will explore lessons learnt from geotechnical instability, near-misses, and complex project experiences across excavation, underground works, and foundation systems. Through case histories and investigative insights, it will examine how unexpected ground behaviour, groundwater influences, soil–structure interaction, and the interpretation of site data and monitoring can shape project performance. The event will highlight how early warning signs are recognised, how observational methods inform decision-making, and how technical judgement, risk management, and clear communication with non-geotechnical stakeholders contribute to better project outcomes and improved professional practice.
The symposium presents an opportunity for professional engineers, researchers, specialist contractors, regulators, educators and students to meet and share their knowledge and experiences in geotechnical engineering.
