Regional geology and road construction in the Hobart to Oatlands area

A one-day field trip to explore the regional geology between Hobart and Oatlands with a focus on the road construction works at Constitution Hill and Brighton. Participants will travel by bus to inspect a number of sites along the way.

This will be a great way to learn about the regional geology of this part of Tasmania and to visit road constructions en route and hear about their associated geotechnical challenges.

Travel will be by bus, with numbers strictly limited – be quick! AGS members travel for free.

The trip will be led by Mineral Resources Tasmania geologists with input from engineers with relevant experience.

Participants to meet at 7.45am at the Hydro Tasmania building for an 8.00am departure, returning no later than 6.00pm, Thursday 15th August 2019.

Participants will need to supply their own lunches and refreshments. It is recommended that participants bring a packed lunch to allow the group maximum flexibility. There will be a coffee stop at Oatlands but this may be late (after 1pm).

Minimum PPE requirements are steel toe-capped boots, long sleeved Hi-Visibility gear and wet weather gear. Additional Hi-Viz will be supplied where necessary.
