Geotechnical aspects of Optus Stadium

Optus Stadium in Perth is a 60,000 seater venue that opened in January 2018. The stadium is located in an area of challenging ground conditions and is underlain by up to 20m of soft alluvium soil. In addition, the site was operated as a landfill for several years. The stadium is founded on driven piles and various ground improvement techniques, including surcharging and controlled modulus columns, were used across the site. Katie will be discussing the various geotechnical aspects involved in the design and construction of Optus Stadium, Perth including the design of foundations and earth retaining structures and the ongoing monitoring across the site.
