Bio-cementation as an Alternative Ground Improvement Technique
Dr Rajibul Karim
Biocementation tehcniques such as Enzyme induced carbonate precipitation (EICP) and Micorbial induced carbonate precipitation (MICP) have significant potential for many scientific and engineering applications, such as binding discrete soil particles and improving their strength, reducing soil liquefaction potential, surface erosion control, reducing permeability, and heavy metal contaminant remediation. This talk discusses some of the latest developments in the area of EICP and MICP in geotechnical application including the treatment processes involved, treated material behaviour, potential applications and a sustainability analysis for a hypothetical scenario.
